Jyothi Rural Development Society – JRDS is a registered NGO with 7 members in the Board. Mr. Andrewz, the president of JRDS was elected to Local Panchayat Institution in 1986. Since 1986, together with the mobilization of local youth he worked unstintingly for the cause of the marginalized communities, unemployed youth, aged and widows, environmental protection and promotion, good governance and sustainable agriculture with the focus on land, water and forest. In the process of working for the poor and marginalized JRDS was registered on 7th January 1993 to institutionalize the learning’s, experience and collective work to carry forward more effectively with 23 staff and rural training centre JRDS is a good resourceful NGO.
The work area of JRDS falls in the peripheral of the reserve forest covering 35 villages in Malavalli Taluk, Mandya District, Karnataka State in South India. This area falls under politically reserved state assembly constituency since the majority of the population belongs to dalits, tribals, fisher folks and other marginalized communities. The main occupation of the people is seasonal rain fed agriculture with 90% of the landowners being marginal farmers.
In addition JRDS is currently involved in networking of CBOs promoted by it with other 12 independent ad registered SHG federations in other 4 Districts to carry on the campaign on Child Rights / Development.
